The Global Institute of Resource Development (GiRD) is thrilled to announce the launch of the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) MSME Support Initiative in Ghana.
With a primary focus on empowering nature-positive Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the environmental and natural resource sector, this initiative aims to catalyze sustainable growth and foster innovation among Ghanaian businesses.
Program Details
Duration: 12 months (starting in August 2024)
Focus areas: Business Planning, Accounting & Bookkeeping, Marketing, Online sales, cross-border trade, environmentally sustainable production
Delivery Mode: Blend of in-person and online sessions
Peer-to-Peer Mentoring: Participants will benefit from the peer-to-peer learning and mentorship, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the cohort.
The project aims to empower nature-positive micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the environmental and natural resource sector with competence in business planning, marketing, online sales, and cross-border trade, aligned with the principles of environmentally sustainable production. The project seeks to provide capacity development to potential MMEs and established MSMEs to enhance their ability to thrive as successful and independent businesses Environmental Impact of Business Practices: The project focuses on supporting “nature-positive” MSMEs, emphasizing environmentally sustainable practices. By promoting ethical marketing principles and sustainable production, it addresses concerns related to environmental degradation and encourages businesses to operate in harmony with nature.
Leveraging their expertise, the project will facilitate courses in-person and online, engaging experienced facilitators and ensuring a peer-to-peer mentoring system to address specific enterprise needs. The Project will target communities in the All 16 regions of Ghana.
The main objective of the project is to provide the essentials of business planning to nature positive MSMEs in the environmental and natural resource sector.
The training will churn out ten (10) modules and the tools to be applied under each module will include the following:

- Module 2: Basic Accounting and Finance
- Module 3: Marketing Fundamentals
- Module 4: Digital/Social Media Marketing
- Module 5: Customer Experience
- Module 6: Online Sales Approach
- Module 7: Cybersecurity Best Practices and Tools
- Module 8: Cross-Border Trade Approach
- Module 9: Customs Procedures/Cross-Border Trading Requirements
- Module 10: Opportunities under Relevant Free Trade Agreements
